Through a new programme in our Polish Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE), students and teachers have been able to witness how science and practice work hand in hand for sustainable agriculture.
During the workshop, called “Waste management in agriculture towards a circular economy”, participants gained valuable knowledge about renewable energy sources and waste management, as well as climate-friendly and sustainable farming. They also did a study visit to the modern ENERGIA OZ biogas plant.
Organised in cooperation with new CoVE partners the Earth and People Foundation and the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation (IUNG), the unique event taught ZSCKR Wojsławice students and teachers about biogas production from organic waste, as well as the role of renewable energy in climate protection. They also got the opportunity to apply their knowledge through interactive activities, and exchanged ideas for eco-friendly solutions in farming and daily life.
Dr Magdalena Borzęcka and Dr Małgorzata Kozak, from the IUNG, led workshops on:
- Sustainable agriculture and climate action.
- EU and Polish environmental regulations.
- Biomass monitoring and reuse of organic residues.
- Agriculture 4.0 – innovative technologies for the environment.
The day was a mix of lectures and hands-on exercises, including one that involved the use of a biomass calculator, which allowed participants to test theory in practice!
The study visit to the biogas plant was a true lesson in modern technology. President Zbigniew Michałowicz and Manager Kamil Browarny personally guided the group, showing that sustainable agriculture is not the future – it’s happening now!
Such workshop days have a tremendous impact to strengthen students’ and teachers’ competences in climate-smart agriculture.
