Central and Southern Ostrobothnia CoVE

“In Finland, practical tools are needed in agriculture for climate action and the development of sustainable agriculture. This requires new know-how at all levels and, in addition to that, also a fundamental change of attitude and the recognition of opportunities.”

Hanna-Mari Laitala – KPEDU – Central southern ostrobothia CoVE Regional Captains

What the Central Southern Ostrobothnia CoVE aims to achieve:

The Central-Southern Ostrobothnia CoVE comprises four beneficiaries: two VET partners (KPEDU, SEDU), one enterprise partner (ProAgria Keski-Pohjanmaa), and one University of Applied Sciences (LUAS).

The CoVE is established with two VET-partners located in neighbouring administrative regions. However, the regional strategies as well as the natural conditions for agriculture are similar and these two institutions have a history of collaboration on various projects. By combining the VET partners with an enterprise partner, this CoVE is poised to have a significant impact on the agricultural sector in Central Finland. LUAS will contribute high-quality expertise and climate-smart agriculture (CSA) education to teachers and stakeholders.

The primary goal is to enhance the attractiveness of rural professions and improve the sector’s image, thereby ensuring a sustainable future labour supply.

“When we talk to students and farmers in Denmark about the green transition, most agree that they, – and the entire agricultural sector, plays a crucial and important role. But when asked how they can act more climate-smart, many become less clear. We need to give students and farmers specific skills to work in a climate-smart way and give the entire sector a more proactive voice and role in the green transition”
