The Netherlands CoVE

“The Netherlands are the world second exporter of agricultural products. Without abandoning this position, it is a struggle to make the agricultural output sustainable and at best circular. Maybe for the Netherlands alone, being a small land surface, it is impossible to reach that goal, but in the EU this goal is certainly achievable.”

Douwe Algra – the Netherlands CoVe Regional Captain

What The Netherlands CoVE aims to achieve:

The Netherlands CoVE, comprising of AERES MBO and AGROFOOD CLUSTER, aims to be in the centre of innovative sustainable agriculture.

AERES MBO a multiple center VET-provider with three locations involved in this COVE are running ahead in innovative practice in agriculture. The Barneveld location is focusing on innovation in sustainable poultry, veal and pork production. They have a poultry innovation lab, where innovative production methods are being tested, and where experiments are conducted with production of insect proteins for poultry feed.

The Dronten location is specialised in biologic and circular agriculture, with a long history of VET training in biologic-dynamic agriculture; and Emmeloord location focuses on arable farming.

“When we talk to students and farmers in Denmark about the green transition, most agree that they, – and the entire agricultural sector, plays a crucial and important role. But when asked how they can act more climate-smart, many become less clear. We need to give students and farmers specific skills to work in a climate-smart way and give the entire sector a more proactive voice and role in the green transition”
