Climate change is putting Europe’s agriculture under pressure – a new EU project paves the way for solutions

“When we talk to students and farmers in Denmark about the green transition, most agree that they, – and the entire agricultural sector, plays a crucial and important role. But when asked how they can act more climate-smart, many become less clear. We need to give students and farmers specific skills to work in a climate-smart way and give the entire sector a more proactive voice and role in the green transition”

Climate change is putting Europe’s agriculture under pressure – a new EU project paves the way for solutions

European agriculture is facing some of the biggest climate challenges ever. The need for innovative and climate-smart solutions is urgent, which is where EVECSA (European Vocational Excellence for Climate Smart Agriculture) comes in. This ambitious Erasmus+ initiative aims to equip future professionals and educational institutions to drive the green transition.

The power of collaboration – from local to European scale

At the heart of EVECSA are the so-called Centers of Vocational Excellence (CoVE), where educational institutions, companies and research environments work closely together. With participation from six European countries, including Denmark, the project is firmly rooted in both national and international partnerships.

In Denmark, the CoVE collaboration consists of:

Asmildkloster Agricultural College

Bygholm Agricultural College

Kalø Organic Agricultural College

Agricultural Education Center Aarhus

Food & Bio Cluster Denmark

Aarhus University

The project is strengthened by the international knowledge sharing element, where the parties develop solutions together. The goal is clear: We want to create a partnership that takes responsibility for contributing to a reinterpretation of agriculture’s path towards a balanced soil and an active transition to climate-smart agriculture

Agromek: Official start of the Danish CoVE collaboration

In a setting of cutting-edge technology and impressive agricultural machinery, the Danish CoVE collaboration was officially launched on November 26 during the Agromek trade fair in Herning, Denmark. Agromek, known as the agricultural industry’s epicenter for networking and innovation, was the perfect place to launch the project.

The day’s program included workshops, presentations and engaged discussions where the participants – school leaders, project managers and educators – developed common goals and visions. The atmosphere was characterized by energy and willingness to collaborate, with a particular focus on securing the future of agriculture with climate-smart skills.

A common mission for the future of agriculture

The collaboration in EVECSA is based on the realization that no single actor can solve the complex climate challenges alone. The interdisciplinary approach between educational institutions, companies and research environments is essential to achieve the ambitious goals of the project.

With EVECSA, Europe is taking an important step towards creating a sustainable and climate-smart future for agriculture – an effort that will benefit both the environment and future generations.
