“When we talk to students and farmers in Denmark about the green transition, most agree that they, – and the entire agricultural sector, plays a crucial and important role. But when asked how they can act more climate-smart, many become less clear. We need to give students and farmers specific skills to work in a climate-smart way and give the entire sector a more proactive voice and role in the green transition”

“In Catalonia, due to climate change, we are facing a less resilient agriculture and a constantly growing forest mass. By carrying out the interaction between these entities we can take advantage of the knowledge of each one to generate synergies and make ourselves more powerful in the face of the climate change we are already suffering, both teachers, students and producers.”

What does the “Catalonia CoVE” aim to achieve

The EVECSA Catalania CoVE, comprising Agriculture school from Manresa, Beta Technological Centre and Boscat, aims to advance innovative and sustainable agriculture in Catalonia.

The objective of our CoVE is to minimize agriculture’s environmental impact while adapting to the realities of climate change. In our wooded terrain, there is a lack of mosaic structures and a lot of forest mass. We want to look for resilient structures to deal with the prolonged drought and minimize forest fires that are very present in our forested geography. We want to combine good grazing and interact with the cleaning of the undergrowth. We can take advantage of the chopped branch and add it in the agriculture lands in order to low the temperature of the crops.

The Manresa Agricultural School trains students in ecological agriculture and livestock practices, emphasizing techniques that minimize soil impact and promote regenerative, sustainable farming (or alive grown). Centre Beta is a technological centre and is responsible for carrying out different projects for private companies directly related to agriculture and the environment, in order to develop a more sustainable agriculture. Finally, Boscat is an association federation of forest owners with the common goal of cleaning and conserving the undergrowth, avoiding fires and taking advantage of the cut wood branches and researching new uses for forest remains.
